Trump’s Republican National Convention speech live: Hosted by Hulk Hogan, the former president only mentions Biden twice

Trump formally accepts Republican presidential nomination at Republican National Convention

Donald Trump delivered a nearly two-hour speech to conclude the Republican National Convention in Milwaukee, Wisconsin, on Thursday night.

Introduced by Hulk Hogan, the former president formally accepted the Republican presidential nomination and solemnly reflected on how he survived Saturday’s assassination attempt during his record-breaking speech, before balloons fell from the ceiling of Fiserv Forum as the event concluded amid thunderous applause.

His wife Melania Trump, a former first lady, also joined him on stage for a kiss at the end, after having sat with vice presidential candidate JD Vance to listen to his opening remarks.

Trump began describing his brush with death in Pennsylvania five days ago, noting: “Had I not moved my head at that last instant, the assassin’s bullet would have hit exactly the mark and I would not be here tonight.”

He also kissed the helmet of retired Fire Chief Corey Comperatore, who died at the Butler rally.

Throughout the speech, Trump repeated many of his most-repeated arguments, including the baseless claim that the 2020 election was stolen and that the world is on the brink of “World War III,” but only mentioned Joe Biden by name twice, denouncing his record in office.

For weeks, reports have abounded about President Joe Biden’s cognitive state in the wake of his terrible performance in last month’s CNN presidential debate, with some Democrats going so far as to call for him to drop out of the presidential race.

But not much ink has been written about Donald Trump’s mental state.

Andrew Feinberg Milwaukee reports.

RNC ‘was well executed,’ but Donald is an ’empty soul,’ says former Trump White House lawyer

For attorney Ty Cobb, who served as White House counsel to Donald Trump during the former president’s first year in office, the four-day GOP nominating contest held this week was, for the party’s purposes, “well executed.” Republicans have never seemed more united, and their message is clear, Cobb said Friday morning.

“Unfortunately, and obviously, it’s mostly theater,” Cobb said. The Independent“Trump is an empty soul. He represents nothing but pure ambition. He has no principles.”

Trump shooter may have scouted rally site six days before attack

Would-be Donald Trump assassin Thomas Matthew Crooks appears to have scouted the site of the former president’s campaign rally six days before he went to the event in Butler, Pennsylvania, and opened fire, according to a report.

The FBI provided an update on the shooting investigation to Senate and House lawmakers on Wednesday, revealing new details about the 20-year-old gunman’s actions leading up to the shooting.

Sources told CNN that Crooks’ online search history revealed that he had searched for information about Ethan Crumbley, the school shooter who killed four students at Oxford High School in Michigan in 2021. A screenshot of Crumbley’s arrest photo was also found on Crooks’ personal cell phone, the outlet reported.

Secret Service slams ‘disgusting’ right-wing attacks on female officers after Trump rally shooting

The Secret Service said it was “appalled” by the “disparaging” and “disgusting” attacks on female officers in response to a spate of sexist comments from people online criticizing the agency’s failure to prevent the shooting at Trump’s rally.

In the week since a gunman opened fire at a Trump rally in Pennsylvania, killing one person and wounding three others, including the former president, some prominent right-wingers have accused the women of the Secret Service of failing to do their jobs.
