‘Houseboy’ jailed for raping employer’s daughter

The Court of Gender Violence has sentenced a 28-year-old domestic employee to seven years in prison for having sexual relations with his employer’s 12-year-old daughter.

Augustine Owusu was charged with rape and pleaded guilty.

The court presided over by Dora Inkumsah Eshun convicted Owusu of his own guilt and sentenced him accordingly.

The prosecution, led by Chief Inspector Opoku Aniagyei, said the complainant is a businessman who lives in Tabora, Accra, with the victim, a secondary school pupil.

The prosecution claimed that Owusu is the complainant’s servant and resides in the same house as the complainant.

He said Owusu’s main job at the complainant’s house was to look after the victim’s grandfather.

Owusu and the victim’s grandfather lived in the same room in the house.

According to the prosecution, during the day, the victim’s grandfather often sat under a tree in the house while Owusu remained in the room.

Between June and November 2023, the victim frequently went to her grandfather’s room after school to check on Owusu, but sometimes did not see him.

The prosecution indicated that on one occasion, the victim’s grandfather saw her run out of her room when he (the grandfather) was entering.

This aroused the suspicions of the grandfather, who informed the victim’s mother, who warned Owusu to stay away from her.

Prosecutors said the victim’s mother “sent spies” to Owusu after he warned her to be careful around her.

On 9 March 2024, at approximately 09:00 hours, Owusu was seen carrying the victim on a bicycle.

When the victim’s mother was informed, she ordered his arrest the next day.

During interrogation, it was discovered that Owusu had had sexual intercourse with the victim on two occasions.
