131,005 security and media personnel to take part in special vote – EC

The president of the Electoral Commission (EC), Jean Mensa, revealed that a total of 131,005 people, including security agencies and media personnel, are on the special list of voters.

According to the EC boss, the commission has engaged heads of security agencies including the Ghana Armed Forces, Police Service, Customs, Immigration Service, Prisons Service as well as the Ghana Journalists Association to brief them on the modalities for the special ballot application to ensure that they have a good understanding of how the process works.

Briefing Parliament on the Electoral Commission’s preparations so far, Ms Jean Mensa said the move was aimed at avoiding the confusion that had characterised the special vote ahead of the 2020 elections.

“We are confident that the special vote scheduled for 2 December 2024 will take place without incident and without setbacks.”

He revealed that the list of special electors will be published on his website next week.

“I am pleased to inform you, Mr. President, that we will be publishing the special voters list on our website next week. We have also written to security agencies and the media to provide us with USB flash drives to place the register on and enable their members to review the list and inform us of any errors or problems they may have with the register.”
