The State drops charges against Isau Mupfumi

The State on Thursday 18 July dropped charges against Isau Mupfumi, a prominent Mutare businessman and ZANU PF Central Committee member.

The charges were dropped after the state acknowledged there was no evidence linking Mupfumi to violent clashes that occurred in Mutare’s central business district in May, the statement said. The Herald.

Mupfumi was arrested in May, along with 49 constables and delivery men, following violent clashes between rival gangs armed with machetes at the Sakubva bus terminal and the old Harare station in the city.

He was later released on US$1,000 bail, while the 49 bailiffs and deliverymen remained in custody after being denied bail.

Mutare Magistrate Tendai Mahwe presided over the matter, while Sandra Mlambo prosecuted.
