Police seize machine guns, AR-15 rifles and pistols during raid

Gardaí have uncovered a cache of firearms during a raid on a suspected organised crime group in County Louth.

Today, during a search of a business premises in Ardee, armed Garda officers discovered a large quantity of firearms and ammunition, including machine guns, AR-15 rifles, pistols and weapon components. Two men in their 30s were arrested at the scene under anti-gang legislation and may be questioned for up to seven days.

According to An Garda Síochana, this was part of an ongoing intelligence operation led by the Serious and Organised Crime and Security and Intelligence sections, with officers from the Emergency Response Unit (ERU) and the Drugs and Organised Crime Bureau.

As of tonight, the crime scene remains cordoned off and police are still trying to determine the exact amount of ammunition and weapons discovered. However, they say the cache is significant.

The weapons are suspected to have belonged to an organised crime group involved in firearms trafficking and supplying weapons to other gangs.
