Kericho's chief surveyor arrested for demanding a bribe of Sh200,000

The Chief Surveyor of the Kericho County Government, Ismail Kipngeno Koskei

Detectives from the Ethics and Anti-Corruption Commission (EACC) have arrested Ismail Kipngeno Koskei, chief surveyor for the Kericho County government, on allegations of bribery.

EACC spokesperson Eric Ngumbi confirmed that Koskei was arrested by EACC detectives after demanding Sh200,000 from a member of the public to facilitate a land transaction.

The whistleblower, in his statement to the EACC, said his family’s land had been improperly combined with that of Brooke Market County Council in Kipsigis.

They sought help from Koskei of the Survey Office, who set aside the plot from Brooke Market, but accused him of wanting a bribe of 200,000 shillings before issuing the new title.

The suspect was caught in his office in Kericho after receiving Ksh.100,000 as initial deposit for the bribe.

He was taken to the EACC regional offices in South Rift, Nakuru, where he gave a statement. He is currently detained at Nakuru Central Police Station.

The complainant, a resident of Ainabkoi sub-county, sought help from EACC after refusing to succumb to bribe demands.

“EACC is stepping up enforcement actions against corrupt land officials and encourages service seekers to continue reporting such cases.”
