Government launches Santa Teresa demonstration farm to boost community finances – ChimpReports

In a strategic effort to improve community finances, the government launched the St. Teresa Demonstration Farm in Mugarama Sub-County, Kibaale District on July 13, 2024. This initiative aims to empower the community of the Catholic Diocese of Hoima through the distribution of high-quality piglets as seed capital.

According to the Microfinance Support Centre (MSC), this seed capital programme for pig farming is a crucial strategic initiative to accelerate sustainable socio-economic empowerment in the Bunyoro-Kitara region. This initiative, made possible through the financial support of the Microfinance Support Centre, is a collaboration with the Catholic Diocese of Hoima and aims to support faith-based organisations in eradicating poverty, redistributing wealth and improving the quality of life of communities in the Bunyoro-Kitara region.

The local community enthusiastically welcomed the project, recognising its potential to create wealth and employment opportunities. During the launch event, high-quality piglets of an excellent breed were distributed to several community associations, providing them with the necessary capital to start and grow their pig businesses.

Local MP, Hon Emilly Kugonza, who officiated at the launch, urged the beneficiaries to fully embrace the project. She stressed the importance of achieving positive results to inspire wider community participation. She highlighted the ultimate goal of multiplying the initial piglets so that more community members can benefit over time.
“This initiative is a step forward towards sustainable growth and development in our region. We must ensure that the first beneficiaries are successful so that others will be encouraged to join and benefit from this programme,” said Honourable Kugonza.

Kibaale District Resident Commissioner Godwin Angalia also addressed the gathering and advised all beneficiaries of the piglets to use them for wealth creation. He stressed that his office, together with other security agents, would monitor the beneficiaries to ensure the smooth execution of the project.
Tadeo Atuhura, Public Relations Director of the Microfinance Support Centre, stressed the strategic importance of partnering with religious institutions to reach out to communities to create wealth and sensitize the masses. “By increasing the income of the working poor, this strategy aims to generate wealth at the individual and family level through various enterprises, which can also create jobs for the community,” he said.

The launch of the Santa Teresa demonstration farm marks an important step towards achieving sustainable socio-economic transformation among the Banyoro communities in Bunyoro Kitara. With continued support and dedication, this initiative promises to transform the lives of many in the community, fostering a brighter and more prosperous future.
