Three women arrested for allegedly stealing a baby in Kasoa

The Domestic Violence and Victim Support Unit of the Kasoa Divisional Police Command, DOVVSU Department, led by DSP Doris Laryea, arrested three suspects for allegedly stealing a baby in Kasoa Ofaakor.

The suspects are Magdalene Nana Adwoa Boafo, 28, Faustina Binney, 32, and Eunice Koomson, 36, a teacher at Ebenezer High Academy, a private primary school in Ofaakor.

Police sources said Nana Adwoa Boafo, the prime suspect, approached the baby’s mother, Abigail Addison, who was eight months pregnant and was selling pure water on the street at Ofaakor in Awutu Senya East Municipality.

She offered to help her financially and ensure that the birth was safe.

He later introduced her to the other two suspects, Eunice Koomson and Faustina Binney, who pretended to offer genuine support but had ulterior motives.

The police report said that to cover up their intentions, the suspects rented an apartment for Abigail in Kasoa Lamptey, a suburb of Adam Nana electoral area.

They continued to offer some support to the 29-year-old until she gave birth at Kasoa Polyclinic on July 10, 2024.

However, the kind gesture changed when the victim and her baby were discharged from the hospital.

The suspects are said to have introduced Abigail to another woman as a nurse at the Korle-Bu Teaching Hospital, who would treat her baby for an infection.

According to the police, this was just a ploy to steal the baby.

However, the suspects returned to the victim two days later crying uncontrollably, claiming that the baby had died in Korle-Bu and had been buried.

The victim’s owner, Ebenezer Arthur, in an interview with Adom News, said he became suspicious of his actions and reported the matter to Kasoa DOVVSU, which led to his arrest.

Preliminary investigations later revealed the plan of the women who are currently in custody to assist with the investigations.

Meanwhile, the victim’s mother praised the Commander of Kasoa DOVVSU, DSP Doris Laryea and her team for the good work.
