Head-on collision claims two lives on Swakop-Arandis highway – Top Story 1

Two drivers were killed in a head-on collision between a truck and a pickup truck on the Swakopmund-Arandis Highway.

The accident took place on Saturday, according to national police spokesman Deputy Commissioner Kauna Shikwambi.

The truck, which was carrying crates and empty beer bottles, was reportedly travelling from Swakopmund to Arandis when it collided with a van travelling in the opposite direction.

Shikwambi says both vehicles caught fire on impact and the drivers suffered burns beyond recognition.

“The truck driver has been identified as a 38-year-old Chinese man who worked as a site manager at the Rössing uranium mine of Beifang Mining Company. The identity of the truck driver remains unknown,” it said.
