Yusuph Kagoma, one of Simba SC’s new signings, says he welcomes competition for places in the team’s midfield as they prepare for the 2024-25 season.

Wekundu wa Msimbazi are looking to take on their arch rivals, the Young Africans, who have dominated the Tanzanian Mainland Premier League in recent seasons, and have therefore made significant changes to their squad.

This is particularly true in the midfield department, where Kagoma joins Augustine Okejepha, Debora Mavumbo, Jean Charles Ahoua and Omary Omary as new signings.

This means that Simba now has significant depth when it comes to “engine room” options, but Kagoma is eager to prove his worth.

“There is always talk about the number of players in a squad, but that doesn’t worry me,” he told The Guardian. “I am here to work hard and convince the coaching staff to give me a chance.”

Kagoma went on to express confidence in Simba’s prospects for the upcoming season.

“I think we will do well because of the quality and strength we have. Competition is inevitable when you have a lot of players, but that is what makes a team stronger,” he said.

“Personally, I am not afraid of competition. We are all here to fight and help the team succeed. Simba SC fans have high hopes for this season and we plan to make sure we bring them happiness.”

The midfielder also explained that signing for the Dar es Salaam club fulfils a long-held ambition: “Choosing Simba was an easy decision for me. Playing for Simba has been a dream of mine since I was a child, and when the opportunity came, I didn’t hesitate.”
