The Paris 2024 Olympic Games are just days away from starting and Simone Biles is back for another shot at glory after withdrawing from the 2020 Tokyo Olympics.

As fans recall, in July 2021, Simone, the most decorated gymnast of all time, withdrew from competition after experiencing “the twists,” or a loss of body awareness while performing in the air. At the time, Simone was considered the favorite to win the gold medal in the all-around competition. What’s more, at the time, she said that the event led her on a mission to prioritize her mental health, with people wondering if she would ever return to the sport.

Three years later, the 27-year-old is now one of five gymnasts (including Suni Lee, Jade Carey and Jordan Chiles and Hezly Rivera) representing Team USA at the 2024 Paris Olympics. Speaking with hoda Kotb about him Today In a show about her motivation to return to international games, she shared that it actually came from watching gymnastics on TV.

“It took me a while, because I was watching gymnastics on TV, every time someone would twist, I was like, ‘Oh my God,'” she explained in a clip that aired during the July 17 episode. “And then one day, I woke up and I was like, ‘Let’s try this again.'”

Despite Simone’s decision to return to competing in the sport she loves, others had mixed feelings about it.

She added that her coaches and teammates supported her decision, but that she needed some time to reacquaint herself with the sport before going to Paris.

“They were telling us, ‘Get back in the gym. Get your skills back,'” he said. “So we all collectively decided that we’re really going to give it our best shot.”

As she said TODAY.comShe is excited to see what’s next in Paris with her family (including her husband). Jonathan Owens) and friends at his side.
