IFA working to establish dataset on violent and non-violent conflicts – ENA

Addis Ababa, 20 July 2024 (ENA) A validation workshop on the establishment of a dataset on violent and non-violent conflicts was held today in Addis Ababa at the Institute of Foreign Affairs (IFA).

The workshop organized by the institute and the Ministry of Peace focused on establishing a comprehensive dataset on violent and non-violent conflict (NaVCoD) that includes all necessary observation units and observable characteristics, according to IFA.

In his opening remarks, IFA Executive Director Jafar Bedru stressed the importance of establishing a dataset as a key tool to understand the nature, dynamics, actors and consequences of conflicts in Ethiopia and the Horn of Africa.

From the dataset, researchers, policy makers and policy analysts could easily access reliable data that is crucial for the outcome of the research.

According to him, IFA will enable other research institutions to access the dataset to facilitate collaboration and improve research efforts globally.

By sharing and using datasets from diverse sources, researchers can address gaps, analyze trends, and conduct situational assessments related to violent and nonviolent conflict.

Minister of State for Peace Cheru Geta, IFA academics and other senior officials and experts from the Ministry of Peace participated in the validation workshop.
