Wallabies player ratings: Rob Valetini shines as Filipo Daugunu sees red : Planet Rugby

Following the Wallabies’ 40-29 win over Georgia in Sydney, here are our player ratings for Joe Schmidt’s Australia side.

Backs

15 Tom Wright: Again like the last two Tests against Wales there were a lot of positives but there were also errors and in this case a poor tackle attempt that leaked a try. Wright did have some good interventions in a mixed-bag of a shift. 5

14 Philip Daugunu: Had a really good start before he was sent off for a mistimed charge down and subsequent head contact to a Georgian. Some might feel it is a hard one for Daugunu but ultimately he was not in a position to jump and it resulted in a dangerous situation. 4

13 Len Ikitau: Schmidt may have found his 13. Ikitau played his midfield partner in early with a lovely little pass. Otherwise, he ran some good lines and made his tackles. The Brumby complements Paisami quite nicely. 6

12 Hunter Paisami: Another top showing from the core of this backline. He scored a lovely try and made eight tackles on defence. He has to be one of the first names on the team sheet. 8

11 Darby Lancaster: A fairly quiet debut with one or two decent touches, otherwise did not contribute heavily on attack. He probably would like to have that casual chase back again after he left the door open for a Georgian try. 5

10 Ben Donaldson: Definition of a mixed-bag. At times he looked perfect for the Australian attack but at other times he was riddled with errors. It certainly was not the kind of performance that makes him the first choice over Noah Lolesio. 6

9 Tate McDermott: One of the real backline winners today. When the tempo is high and play slightly broken the scrum-half thrives whether it’s a quick snipe or picking runners around the corner. McDermott also kicked quick nicely. 8

Blockbuster back-row

8 Harry Wilson: Easy to see how much he loved being back in Wallabies gold and the number eight certainly made the most of it by getting his hands on the ball and running hard at the defence. He found the time to make 12 tackles as well. 8

7 Fraser McReight: A brace of tries, a lot of carries, meters and tackles. The Queenslander offered everything Schmidt would want from an open side and he looks to be doing so every single week. Really coming into his own. 9

6 Robert Valetini: Two tries and a try assist for good measure in yet another brilliant performance. We feel like a stuck record praising the blindside but he is truly a quality player. Valetini and McReight are massively important to the Wallabies as a whole. 9

5 Angus Blyth: He didn’t get much chance with the ball in hand but showed his hand on defense and in the set-piece. By no means a blockbuster effort but a solid outing. 5

4 Nick Frost: Not often is there another forward with more carries than Valetini but Frost certainly put his hand up today in a big way. He also made nine tackles and surely shoots right up the pecking order. 7

3 Allan Alaalatoa: Got good purchase with some of his carries while holding his own in the set-piece quite nicely. Very neat on defense, making 10 tackles and not missing any. Solid. 7

2 Billy Pollard: A bruising player on both sides of the ball. Pollard went about his business with little fuss but also did not stand out in a big way. 6

1 Isaac Aedo Kailea: Absolutely climbed into the game on his first start complete with his first Test try. Kailea is a brilliant prop who is very powerful but deceptively mobile and is a great player for the Wallabies set-up right now. 7

Replacements: Not the biggest of impacts from the bench with Andrew Kellaway the only real name to stand out from the gentlemen coming off the pine. 6
