Manufacturers praise Colonel Nakalema’s protection unit for empowering investors

The House of Representatives Investor Protection Unit (SHIPU) has been praised for empowering investors in the country.

This occurred during a meeting between the head of SHIPU, Colonel Edith Nakalema, and officials of Uganda Baati Limited led by the company’s Managing Director, Mr. George Arodi, held at the unit’s offices in Kampala on Thursday, July 18, 2024.
Mr. Arodi praised the unit for the good work it is doing in protecting domestic and foreign investors by creating a prosperous investment climate in the country.
“We appreciate the good work you are doing,” he said.
Mr. Arodi also informed Colonel Nakalema that they are the leading manufacturer and supplier of roofing products in Africa and he was happy to note that Uganda Baati has made a contribution to the socio-economic transformation of Uganda.
“We operate in nine countries and we are the oldest investors in Uganda. We have been here since 1964. We came when people were not familiar with iron sheets, but we decided to bring the technology here,” he said.
Mr Arodi further thanked President Yoweri Museveni for establishing the investor-friendly unit.
“His Excellency the President has put a lot of emphasis on attracting investments. Many investors have been frustrated because there are people who want a certain percentage of investors to be able to invest in Uganda. We really thank the President for the protection,” he added.
For his part, Colonel Nakalema praised Uganda Baati for making the good decision to invest in Uganda.
He also informed the delegation that His Excellency the President created SHIPU in order to intensify operations to promote and protect investors in the country.
“We have recently established the Investor Protection Electronic Portal to provide guidance to investors by providing access to authentic government sources, providing a one-stop reporting mechanism for investor queries and complaints, supporting law enforcement, and providing regular feedback to investors,” he said.
Colonel Nakalema said that with this portal, investors are protected from falling into the hands of wrong elements who demand bribes and delay investments.
“We want to eliminate the flaws that frustrate investors,” he urged.
Meanwhile, President Museveni last year established the State House Investor Protection Unit to create a prosperous investment climate in Uganda by protecting investors from corrupt practices and unnecessary bureaucracy.
