The Tanzania Airports Authority (TAA) has announced plans to rebuild the lounges at Mwanza, Kilimanjaro and both Arusha airports during this financial year. The improvements are aimed at accommodating the growing influx of international tourists and business travellers.

TAA director general Mussa Mbura revealed that each state-of-the-art lounge will cost approximately 600 million Tanzanian shillings (£190,000). The government has allocated funds for these upgrades and expects to see benefits within a year.

This initiative follows the recent Sh600 million renovation of the VIP lounge at Julius Nyerere International Airport (JNIA) in Dar es Salaam. In response, ground handling provider Swissport has invested in two new Mercedes Benz vehicles, each valued at Sh350 million (£110,000) to transport VIP passengers at JNIA.

Mbura noted that the government’s efforts to attract investors have led to an increase in the arrival of tourists and business people using the VIP facilities. The improvements are part of Tanzania’s strategy to upgrade its airport services to international levels, thereby supporting the country’s growing tourism and business sector.
