General Muhoozi decorates newly promoted UPDF generals and colonels

Chief of Defence Forces and Senior Adviser to the President on Special Operations, General Muhoozi Keinerugaba, presents Brigadier General Sserunkuma with his new rank insignia during a promotion ceremony held at the Ministry of Defence and Veterans Affairs headquarters in Mbuya, Kampala. General Muhoozi commended the newly promoted officers for their commitment and contribution to national defence, and encouraged them to continue their loyal and dedicated service.

Kampala, Uganda – General Muhoozi Keinerugaba, Chief of Defence Forces and Senior Presidential Adviser on Special Operations, decorated five newly promoted Brigadier Generals and eighteen Colonels of the Uganda People’s Defence Forces (UPDF) at a ceremony held at the headquarters of the Ministry of Defence and Veterans Affairs in Mbuya.

The promoted officers were commended for their unwavering dedication and remarkable contribution to national defence. General Muhoozi noted their exceptional teamwork, resilience and integrity in leadership, saying their promotion is a recognition of their past achievements and a vote of confidence in their potential to continue leading the country.

General Muhoozi reminded the officers of the responsibilities and expectations that come with their new rank, stressing that they carry on their shoulders the weight of the greatness of the army and the unwavering support and respect of their colleagues, subordinates and family members. He urged them to continue to serve with dedication as the nation looks up to them for its protection and defence.

Brigadier General Wilberforce Sserunkuma, Deputy Commander of the 3rd Infantry Division, spoke on behalf of the promoted officers and expressed his gratitude to President Yoweri Kaguta Museveni, Commander-in-Chief, and the UPDF leadership for the promotions. He thanked their families for their support and encouragement, and acknowledged the time they spent away from home due to operations, training and deployments.

The ceremony was attended by senior UPDF officials including Lieutenant General Sam Okiding, Deputy Chief of Defence Forces; Lieutenant General Charles Okidi, Commander UPDF Air Force; Lieutenant General Kayanja Muhanga, Commander Land Force; Major General Jack Bakasumba, Chairman of the Joint Chiefs of Staff; and Ms Edith Butuuro, Undersecretary for Finance and Administration.

The promotions and decorations underscore the UPDF’s commitment to recognising and rewarding exceptional leadership and service, as the military continues to play a vital role in maintaining national security and stability.
