Over 160,000 people join Kamala Harris’ video call with white women

WASHINGTON — More than 160,000 people joined a Zoom call on the evening of July 25 to build support for Democratic presidential nominee Kamala Harris among white women, a voting demographic that has supported Republican nominee Donald Trump in the past two elections.

Organized by Shannon Watts, founder of Moms Demand Action, a gun safety group with about 10 million members, the video call included activists, podcasters, the singer Pink and regular voters, several of whom said they regretted not doing enough before the 2016 election that put Trump in the White House.

A series of video calls in support of Harris’s 2024 bid have been hastily organized following President Joe Biden’s July 21 announcement that he would step aside from the race.

Hours after the announcement, more than 40,000 people joined a Zoom call to support Black women.

The July 22 event for Black men drew more than 50,000 people, with separate events for South Asian women, LGBTQ allies and white men.
