Powerball wins jackpot after no winners $26 million

The drawing comes days after a Hastings family hit a much bigger jackpot than expected when they won $1 million on a bonus ticket.

A woman in the family said she regularly played Lotto with family numbers through a subscription.

It wasn’t the family’s numbers that would win them the million-dollar jackpot, but rather an extra ticket won in the drawing on Wednesday, July 10, and which was entered into the drawing on Saturday, July 13.

He said that in the previous drawing the family won $24 and an extra ticket.

“And can you believe it? It wasn’t even our own numbers that allowed us to win, it was the extra ticket from Wednesday night,” he said.

The family, who described themselves as hard-working and living a simple life, said the win would change their lives.

The previous Lotto Powerball jackpot was won on June 19, when a player from Taranaki scooped a $5.5 million prize.

They became the 13th Powerball billionaire of 2024.

Just weeks earlier, seven people shared the richest prize of the year, when Lotto Powerball hit its $50 million threshold.

Each prize winner took home $7.18 million.

For one Aucklander, it was one of the few tickets he had ever bought.

Another prize winner said he spent a lot of time Googling “what to do when you win the lottery.”
