‘What sort of job was she looking for?’: SP leader questions minor victim in Kannauj rape attempt case; BJP corners Akhilesh’s party | Indian News

NEW DELHI: Samajwadi Party leader Juhie Singh on Monday demanded “concrete evidence” in Kannauj rape attempt case in which Uttar Pradesh Police arrested former party leader Nawab Singh Yadav. Clarifying that Yadav was an “old leader of Samajwadi Party”, Singh questioned, “What kind of job the girl was looking for.”
“It is an accusation against an old leader of the Samajwadi party. I’ve just heard the SP’s byte. The girl was 15. So what sort of job was she looking for?” she told news agency ANI.
The Samajwadi leader also questioned the timing of the victim’s visit to Nawab Singh Yadav’s house.
“They knew Nawab Singh for a long time. They had called him up in the morning. So in the night suddenly this incident happens. 112 is also dialed from there. So justice has to be done. If the girl has been molested, then the girl should get justice. But otherwise, we demand a narco test. We demand a DNA test,” she said.
“We also demand concrete evidence before anybody is actually accused. And if there is any conspiracy involved, then those who are involved in this conspiracy should also be brought to the book,” the leader added.

A former Samajwadi leader Nawab Singh Yadav was arrested for allegedly trying to rape a 15-year-old girl in Kannauj.
Kannauj superintendent of police Amit Kumar Anand said, “Around 1.30 am, a call was received at the UP 112 service in which the girl alleged that she was undressed and a rape attempt was made at her.”
The girl, along with her aunt, had gone to meet the accused, who had called them on the pretext of securing a job for the minor, the officer said.
In her complaint, the girl said Yadav tried to force himself on her when her aunt had gone to the bathroom. But once she came back and saw Yadav in his inner-wears, they immediately called 112, according to the police.
“Taking cognizance of the call, the local police and PRV teams immediately reached the spot. The girl was rescued and the accused, who was in an objectionable condition, was taken into custody,” SP Anand said.
“On the basis of the complaint, an FIR has been lodged under relevant provisions of the Bharatiya Nyaya Sanhita and the POCSO Act. The accused has been arrested and further legal proceedings are underway,” he told reporters.

BJP slams SP, Akhilesh’s party distances itself

The news of Nawab Singh Yadav triggered a row between the SP and the BJP.
UP BJP spokesperson Rakesh Tripathi accused SP of covering up crimes and said, “Nawab Singh Yadav is not only a small leader of SP, but he has also been (former) MP Dimple Yadav’s representative.”
“Samajwadi Party has always covered up such crimes under the policy that boys are boys and they make mistakes (‘ladke hai, ladko se galti ho jaati hai). First, it was Moid Khan of Ayodhya and Nawab Yadav of Kannauj. This is the real character of the SP,” he said.
UP minister Om Prakash Rajbhar also hit out at SP saying, “SP leaders were demanding a DNA test of the accused in the alleged Ayodhya gang rape incident. They should get a DNA test done here also…”

Just a week ago, the two parties were at loggerheads over Ayodhya gangrape case of a 12-year-old girl.
BJP leaders, including chief minister Yogi Adityanath, had alleged that the prime accused Moid Khan was a member of the Samajwadi Party and part of Faizabad MP Awadhesh Prasad’s team.
The Samajwadi party, however, had alleged conspiracy against the party and demanded a DNA test in the case.
“In the case of misdeeds, the way for justice should be found by getting DNA tests done on those who are accused, and not by merely making allegations and doing politics. Whoever is guilty should be given full punishment according to the law, but if The allegations are proven false after the DNA test, then the government officials involved should also not be spared. This is the demand for justice,” SP chief Akhilesh Yadav had tweeted.
