Michael Morales vs. Neil Magny is a welterweight bout on the undercard of UFC Fight Night this weekend and one of our main events for UFC betting.

Morales takes a step up in class against the weak but capable Magny and will be looking to pass the biggest test of his career with flying colours.

UFC odds have Morales as a -800 favorite and Magny as a +575 underdog. Here are my best free UFC Fight Night: Morales vs. Magny predictions from the UFC Apex in Las Vegas.

Magny vs Morales prediction and pick

Combat Analysis

There has been a lot of talk about Morales and he will get the chance to live up to the expectations of those who believe he is on his way to becoming a major player in the welterweight division when he takes on Magny.

The 26-year-old Tijuana native has great offensive tools and does a little bit of everything, not to mention his great movement, solid fight IQ and good conditioning. Magny has long been the division’s truth maker, and while he can still give anyone a bad night, he’s starting to slow down and capitalize on counterattacks.

It is becoming more and more common for Magny to rely on his opponents’ mistakes to win fights, a clear sign of his decline.

To his credit, he still knows when to capitalize on those mistakes and makes the most of those opportunities, but Morales isn’t a seek-and-destroy prospect looking to grab the scalp of Old Man Magny. Morales shoots in and out of range, moves fluidly, and doesn’t put himself in a bad position to attack.

Although Magny’s record shows him as 2-3 in his last five fights, he was dangerously close to 0-5. His recent win over Mike Mallot and an earlier submission victory over Daniel Rodriguez saw Magny work so hard that he was tiring, giving him the chance to get back into the fight and win.

His split decision over Phil Rowe was also more Rowe’s fault because he didn’t stick to the punching, giving Magny the chance to overpower him and avoid a loss. It’s clear that Magny can’t handle sharp strikers, and he’ll struggle with Morales’ movement and athleticism.

Morales is still developing and there is a chance that Magny can exploit the holes in his game, especially since he is the best fighter the young lion has fought to date.

That would likely come on his takedown defense and ground game, which Morales can neutralize with his movement and by throwing tough low kicks to drag the stalling Magny into a crawl. I’m going with Morales

Best best analysis

Even though Magny tries to make it ugly, Morales has successfully blocked almost all the takedowns that have been thrown at him, and Magny has to take quite a few punches in the hope that he can stop him at all.

I don’t see much chance for Magny. Morales will be too sharp, fast and strong, and he doesn’t overcommit or make the kind of mistakes that could give Magny hope. Morales by decision is the choice.
