What to expect and when

4WARNING WEATHER – A heat warning is in effect for most of southeast Michigan until 10 p.m. today, with heat indices around 100 degrees Fahrenheit.

Actual temperatures are expected to rise to around 35 degrees Celsius. Earlier rainfall and persistent cloud cover kept temperatures slightly below freezing this morning. However, if some sunshine can now appear after the first showers and storms, we should see a significant increase in temperatures during the afternoon.

There is a low risk (level 2 of 5) of severe weather later this afternoon and evening. Confidence remains low regarding the timing and evolution of thunderstorms this afternoon and evening, as there are multiple factors for possible thunderstorms.

The general time frame is generally 2:00 PM to midnight, but model data has a better understanding of how this develops after sunset. All observed storms have the potential to become strong to severe, with damaging winds and hail of an inch or larger being the main severe weather threats.

A single tornado cannot be ruled out.

SUNSET: 8:15 PM

Meanwhile, you can expect temperatures to remain in the low 90s through Wednesday. Showers and thunderstorms will continue to be possible Wednesday before surface high pressure builds across the region for the end of the workweek.
