The 2024 Iowa State football season kicks off Saturday at Jack Trice Stadium, where the Cyclones host North Dakota at 2:30 p.m.

Intrigue abounds in Ames, as Iowa State joins the new Big 12, which looks a lot less daunting now that Texas and Oklahoma have been removed. The Cyclones will be looking to start this potentially special campaign on the right foot. North Dakota, meanwhile, is coming off a 7-5 season with an FCS playoff appearance.

Let’s take a look at how Vegas views the game.

Iowa State vs. North Dakota Week 1 College Football Predictions and Picks

Travis Hines, Cyclone Insider columnist

Iowa State 52, North Dakota 7: The Cyclones have lost just twice in Matt Campbell’s eight openers, with the first coming all the way back in his debut season in 2016 and the last at Louisiana in 2020. There was the 3-OT close call against the Panthers in 2019 and a six-point win over Mark Farley’s team in 2021, but the Cyclones have won their last two openers by a combined score of 72-19, with both games coming against FCS opponents (UNI and Southeast Missouri). So a team picked to finish in the middle of the Missouri Valley Conference shouldn’t cause much consternation for the Cyclones.
