Missy Elliott offers ‘prayers’ for rapper Fatman Scoop after his death

Mrs Elliott will never forget her former colleague Fatman Shovel after his death at the age of 53.

“Prayers to the Fatman Scoop family for STRENGTH during this difficult time,” Elliott, 53, wrote via X on Saturday, August 31. “Fatman Scoop’s VOICE and energy have contributed to MANY songs that have made people HAPPY and wanted to dance for over 2 decades.”

She continued: “Your IMPACT is HUGE and will NEVER be forgotten.”

Fatman Scoop (real name Isaac Freeman III), who previously appeared on Elliott’s 2005 song “Lose Control,” passed away on Friday, August 30.

“It is with deep sadness and a very heavy heart that we share the news of the passing of the legendary and iconic Fatman Scoop. Last night the world lost a shining soul, a beacon of light on stage and in life,” Fatman Scoop’s family wrote in a statement Saturday. “Fatman Scoop was not only a world-class performer, he was a father, brother, uncle and friend. He was the laugh in our lives, a constant source of support, unwavering strength and courage.”

They continued: “Fatman Scoop was known worldwide as the undisputed voice of the club. His music made us dance and embrace life with positivity. His joy was infectious and the generosity he gave to everyone will be greatly missed but never forgotten.”

Fatman Scoop, who is survived by his two children, was performing in Connecticut on Friday. Midway through the set, the rapper collapsed and paramedics performed CPR onstage. Fatman Scoop was taken to the hospital before being pronounced dead. A cause of death was not immediately released.

Elliott, along with a number of other musicians, pays tribute to Fatman Scoop.

“Rest in peace, brother,” Little Jon wrote via Instagram comment.

Crystal wateradded for her part: “He was one of the most wonderful people I have ever met. He will truly be missed. Love and prayers to his family.”

Music producer Pure cold (also known as Birch Michael) commemorated the late star.

“You taught me how to be the man I am today. I love you Scoop. Thank you so much for everything you’ve given me,” Pure Cold wrote via Instagram. “I’m honestly speechless. You’ve taken me all over the world and let me perform with you on some of the biggest and best stages on this planet. The things you’ve taught me have truly (sic) made me the man I am today.”
