100% duels won, 100% long balls: 26-year-old United star was incredible for his country last night

Argentina comfortably beat Chile 3-0 in their World Cup qualifier last night.

Manchester United centre-back Lisandro Martinez started on the left side of defence and he delivered a fantastic performance.

The 26-year-old had 67 touches, completed 96 percent of his tackles and also won 100 percent of his ground and aerial duels (6/6).

Martinez cleared his lines four times, lost possession only three times and completed 100% of his long balls.

This performance should give the central defender a lot of confidence for the future.

He hasn’t had the best start to the campaign at United. Against Liverpool, Martinez was dribbled twice and made a foul that led to a shot.

The Argentine had an injury-plagued 2023/24 season with the Red Devils, playing just 900 minutes in 14 appearances across all competitions.

However, he managed to emerge unscathed for Argentina during their Copa America success and appears to have overcome his injury problems.

United return to the Premier League after the international break against Southampton with an early kick-off on Saturday on the South Coast.
