Uruguay too strong for poor Paraguay

After Friday’s winning game in Buenos Aires, Saturday’s Football Bet of the Day is once again focused on the South American World Cup qualifiers. I’ve come up with a way to get the Uruguayans on my side.

🌎 CONMEBOL World Cup Qualifiers

⏰ Saturday September 7, 00:30

Uruguay will be hoping to continue their impressive start to their World Cup qualifying campaign by hosting Paraguay at the Estadio Centenario on Saturday morning, and I am confident that the home side will take all three points.

Uruguay began their World Cup qualifying campaign with just one win from their opening three qualifying matches (W1-D1-L1), but Marcelo Bielsa’s men then won each of their next three matches – including victories at home to Brazil and away to Argentina – to move into second place, just two points behind leaders Argentina.

La Celeste won each of their first three qualifying matches on home soil, scoring seven goals and conceding just one.

Although Paraguay have remarkably only scored one goal in qualifying so far, they have still collected five points from their first six qualifying matches (W1-D2-L3). All of these points were won against the three teams lower down the table. Their only victory was a 1-0 home win over the infamous Bolivia.

Gustavo Alfaro’s new team have already lost at home to Colombia (3rd) and away to both Argentina (1st) and Venezuela (4th). This leaves them in seventh place, two points behind Brazil in sixth place.

Bet of the day

As mentioned, Uruguay have won all three of their opening CONMEBOL World Cup qualifiers on home soil, scoring seven goals and conceding just once. And given that Paraguay have failed to win any of their previous 11 World Cup qualifiers away from home (W0-D4-L7), have lost seven of their last eight matches, and remarkably have failed to score a single goal in any of their previous 10 matches, I’m happy to back the Uruguayans with the -1 Asian Handicap.

This means that if Uruguay wins by one goal, we get our stake back, while a win by two or more goals will result in a full payout.

  • Uruguay -1 Asian Handicap
  • Pays 47/50 (William Hill)
