The professional wrestler turned actor was known for his muscular build when he entered the rings of WrestleMania and MMA.

However, he has since lost 27 kilos, giving him a very lean body that is just as good as his youthful appearance before starring in his new film.

Bautista showed off his massive weight loss during his red carpet appearance on Sept. 6 at the Toronto Film Festival premiere of “The Last Showgirl.”

“I’m getting super tight, this is probably the lightest I’ve been since I was 19 years old,” he told YouTuber Chris Van Vliet, according to the Daily Mail.

“The heaviest I’ve ever been is 370 lbs (26st). When I started with Deacon, I was about 325 lbs (23st),” he continued. “For most of my wrestling career, I was about 290 lbs (21st). Now I’m about 240 lbs (17st).”

Bautista added: “And I went into Knock at the Cabin a year and a half ago, I was 315 pounds (23 st). And that’s when the nightmare started.”

A fan said: “I’ve been a fan of yours since your debut on SmackDown. I’m so happy for you and the success you’ve had! You definitely deserve it!”

“I love your work and your advocacy, Dave,” said another.

A third person commented: “Dave, a lot of people complain about your physique. First off, I see the work you put into BJJ and applaud you as another Gen X wrestler. Secondly, you’re getting rid of the unnatural, much better for you in the long run. Kudos bro. Stay safe. Respect.”

“Damn. What happened to you? Is it too much soy?” one fan wondered.

Another asked: “Why do you look so small? Ozempic got you too?”

The ‘Guardians of the Galaxy’ actor previously talked about his difficult childhood, which landed him in prison several times.

Bautista grew up in the more dangerous neighborhoods surrounding Washington DC and witnessed several disturbing scenes as a young boy.

In his memoir, he recounted how he and his sister, along with several other neighborhood children, witnessed the death of a shooting victim in front of his home.

The actor noted that they were “all standing there watching this poor man dying,” adding that he thought “some of us were even telling jokes.”

“When I was 13, I started getting into more and more trouble for skipping school. I was also arrested for minor things. I was punished or sent to juvenile detention, but the punishment was not severe; I never spent more than a day in jail,” Bautista said of his upbringing.

He claimed that he “didn’t steal or break the law to get revenge on anyone or because I was angry or anything. I stole because all my friends were doing it. It wasn’t a big deal. It just wasn’t unusual. It was what you did.”

“It wasn’t like I was stealing cars or doing drugs or anything really, really bad. But I was definitely a thug and everyone was afraid of where I was going,” he added.

In an interview with The Hollywood ReporterBautista explained why he accepted the scripts for his upcoming film, “The Killer’s Game.”

In the film, based on the novel “The Killer’s Game” by Jay Bonansinga, Bautista plays the lovesick hitman Joe Flood. However, it wasn’t the action that attracted him, but the chance to play a real romantic lead for the first time.

The film has been in development for years, with the likes of Wesley Snipes, Jason Statham, and more initially linked to it. However, it wasn’t until 2023 that work on it was greenlit after Lionsgate acquired the distribution rights and tapped JJ Perry to direct.

“When we first spoke, before I said anything, (Perry) said, ‘Look, man, the most beautiful thing about this story, and what’s going to set us apart, is the romance at the heart of this story.’ And I just breathed a huge sigh of relief. I thought, ‘Thank God,'” Bautista told the news outlet.

He was heavily involved in the casting of actress Sofia Boutella

The book “The Killer’s Game” follows the story of Flood, who is diagnosed with a neurodegenerative brain disease and given only months to live.

He has the opportunity to make a contract with his life so that his beloved Maize (Sofia Boutella) can collect on his life insurance.

For the film adaptation of the novel, Bautista was heavily involved in the casting process, particularly regarding his protagonist and love interest, Boutella.

Regarding how he secured the role for the actress, Bautista said, “They brought up other actresses, but I kept turning them down. I said, ‘No, I can’t imagine anyone else but Sofia.'”

“Then I said, ‘Let’s not go looking for another actress. Let’s just try to shift schedules so we can make Sofia work,'” he continued. “It took a lot of commitment from producers, agents and managers, and Sofia was willing to fly back and forth from Budapest to London while working on two projects.”
