Salt Lake City, UT — Utahns are bracing for severe thunderstorms today, with gusty winds, hail and heavy rain threatening much of the state. As the storms intensify, wind gusts up to 50 mph are expected, with dangerous conditions expected this afternoon.

According to the National Weather Service, severe weather will affect areas of Utah, including Salt Lake City and western regions. Gusty winds and heavy rain may cause property damage, and outdoor gear should be secured immediately. Motorists are urged to avoid traveling during the peak hours of the storm, as high winds could create hazardous driving conditions.

Additionally, with the Harvest Supermoon and a partial lunar eclipse beginning at 8:41 p.m., the sky could be obscured by cloud cover. The eclipse peaks at 10:44 p.m. and lasts until 12:47 a.m. Wednesday.

Residents should monitor local weather updates throughout the day and be prepared for possible power outages. Keep cell phones charged and secure loose outdoor objects such as trampolines and furniture. For more updates, visit weather.gov.
