White Sox on 3-game winning streak for first time in nearly 3 months – NBC Sports Chicago

Andrew Benintendi hit two home runs for the third time this season and drove in four runs. The Chicago White Sox defeated the Los Angeles Angels 8-4 on Monday night, snapping their first three-game winning streak in nearly three months.

Andrew Benintendi hit a two-run home run in the first inning of the game, giving the White Sox a 2-0 lead over the Angels.

It’s just the fourth time the White Sox have won at least three in a row — and the first since June 27-29, when they beat Atlanta and Colorado. Chicago won two of three against Oakland this weekend to snap a streak of 20 straight series losses.

On Tuesday night, Chicago will attempt to equal its season-high four-game winning streak, which it achieved from May 8-11 against Tampa Bay and Cleveland.

The White Sox are 36-115 with 11 games remaining and are trying to avoid the record of 120 losses set by the 1962 New York Mets after 1900. Chicago is 16-57, far from the record of 65 losses set by the 1935 Boston Braves after 1900.

The White Sox took a 3-0 lead in the first inning in a showdown between teams with the worst records in the American League. Benintendi hit a two-run homer to right field off Angels starter Reid Detmers (4-7). Two pitches later, Andrew Vaughn hit a fastball over the wall in left-center field.

It was the fifth time the White Sox had hit back-to-back home runs, but the first time since June 13 in Seattle.

In the second inning, Benintendi grounded in Zach DeLoach to make it 5-0. The left fielder hit his team-leading 19th homer in the seventh inning on a solo shot to right-center.

Lenyn Sosa also hit a homerun for the White Sox to lead off the third inning and extend the lead to 7-1.

Rookie Jonathan Cannon (4-10) threw 6 2/3 innings and earned his second win in three September starts. The right-handed pitcher tied a season record with seven strikeouts and allowed four runs and three hits.

The Angels have lost six games in a row, despite Eric Wagaman’s first major league home run. Charles Leblanc also had a solo shot.

Los Angeles suffered its 90th loss in its 150th game, the fastest loss in franchise history.

With 10 consecutive losing seasons, the Angels are trying to avoid the most losses in franchise history in Ron Washington’s first year as manager. The record stands at 95, set in 1968 and 1980.
