Who are JD Vance’s children? Ewan, Vivek and Mirabel Vance

play

While the vice presidential candidate travels the country campaigning for children and families, this Ohio senator leaves behind a very young family.

Republican JD Vance may be former President Donald Trump’s running mate in the upcoming elections, but he is also a lawyer, author, war veteran, husband and proud ‘dad’.

During his speech at the Republican National Convention on July 17, Vance said the achievement he was most proud of in his life was his family. “My main American dream was to become a good husband and a good father,” he said. “I wanted to give my children the things I didn’t have growing up.”

Vance shouted to his children during that speech, “If you’re looking, Daddy loves you very much, but go to bed, it’s ten o’clock.”

Here’s what we know about Vance and his wife and their three children, Ewan, Vivek and Mirabel.

JD and Usha Chilukuri Vance

JD Vance, 40, and Usha Chilukuri, 38, were students at Yale University when they met and both graduated from Yale Law School.

JD was born in Middletown, Ohio and graduated from Ohio State after serving in the United States Marine Corps and being a veteran of the Iraq War. His career includes serving as a law clerk, corporate lawyer, venture capitalist, and author, all before becoming a United States Senator from Ohio. He wrote a memoir about his childhood called Hillbilly Elegy, which later became a film.

Usha was born in San Diego to immigrant parents from Andhra Pradesh, India. Her career included serving as a law clerk for Justices Amul Thapar, Brett Kavanaugh and Chief Justice John Roberts and working for the law firm Munger, Tolles and Olsen LLP.

In 2014, JD and Usha got married in Kentucky in an interfaith wedding ceremony as she is a practicing Hindu and he is a Christian. They share two sons – Ewan, 6, Vivek, 4 – and a daughter named Mirabel, 2.

Ewan Vance

Ewan Blaine Vance is the eldest son, born in June 2017. In an interview with Megan Kelly in 2017, Usha described the surprise pregnancy and the expectation of their first son.

Kelly later posted a congratulations message to the parents on Ewan’s birth, with a photo of the happy family on her social media account.

Vivek Vance

The second son, Vivek, was born in February 2020, less than three years after Ewan.

During a speech on the Senate floor on February 12, Vance used the moment to express an endearing moment of birthday wishes for Vivek: “I have a little boy named Vivek who was three years old yesterday but turned four today.”

Vance apologized for not being there before continuing, “But I want you to know that Dad loves you very much.” And I’m going to read this for the record, because maybe you can watch it at home,” and then he recited the Dr. 1990 Seuss classic, “Oh, The Places You’ll Go!” inserting Vivek’s name into the last verse, according to The Hill.

Mirabel Vance

In December 2021, the couple welcomed their third child and first daughter, Mirabel.

According to People, Vance shared the news in a social media post with a photo of the couple and the baby from the hospital. The caption read: “We have been blessed with an early Christmas gift this year. Meet Mirabel Rose Vance, our first girl. Mom and baby are both doing great, and we are very grateful this Christmas season.”
