Red flag warning until 7pm on Wednesday. What is a red flag warning? – ABC 6 News

The National Weather Service has issued a RED FLAG WARNING until 7:00 PM today (Wednesday, October 2). One of the most common questions we get is, “What is a red flag warning?”

A Red flag warning is issued to inform everyone, whether individuals, contractors or other local government entities, that weather conditions may lead to extensive wildfires and/or control issues on existing wildfires and controlled burns.

In our case, warmer than normal temperatures, combined with low humidity and strong, gusty southwesterly winds, lead to increased concerns about fire danger. The graphs below show conditions at 3pm on Wednesday.
