If he maintains the average he has scored at over the last four years, Root will need another 56 Test innings to reach Sachin Tendulkar’s record of 15,921 Test runs. If England play Tests, Root could get there in three years, before he turns 37. Oddsmakers already give Root a 33% chance of lowering Tendulkar’s score.
