A massive meat recall is impacting grocery stores across the country, including popular Ohio chains Giant Eagle and Kroger. The recall, prompted by concerns about listeria, affected 10 million pounds of meat products found in sandwiches, salads and wraps.

Which Kroger and Giant Eagle products are part of the meat recall?

BrucePac, a manufacturer of pre-cooked meats, has recalled hundreds of ready-to-eat meat and poultry products due to growing concerns about listeria. The United States Department of Agriculture (USDA) released a list of retailers, brands and food products containing the recalled meat.

So far some of the Kroger branded items The recalls include the chain’s prepared chicken salad kits (Cobb, Garden BLT and chef salads).

Likewise, Recalled Giant Eagle products include the chain’s chicken salad bowls (Caesar, Southwest Style and Queso Fresco) joining the growing list of products hitting the recall list.

How do you know if your food has been recalled?

The affected foods have a production date of up to October 8, meaning they are likely still in refrigerators and freezers or may still be on the shelves of restaurants and other establishments. According to USA TODAY, items produced between June 19, 2024 and October 8, 2024, with location numbers “51205 or P-51205” on the packaging, are included in the recall.

What are the symptoms of listeriosis caused by listeria?

Listeriosis, which results from outbreaks of listeria, is a serious infection caused by the bacterium Listeria monocytogenes that is found in contaminated food and can cause fever, headache and seizures, among other symptoms, according to the Food and Drug Administration.

If you have purchased recalled products, the USDA advises customers to throw them away or return them to the place of purchase, but not to eat them.
