The tropical disturbance toward Florida is beginning to diminish

Two tropical disturbances will not affect our weather this week

NHC: Two disruptions

JACKSONVILLE, Fla. – Many questions continue to flood our newsroom about the “hurricane” in the Gulf. This statement remains untrue.

No storm has been named, or even one is expected to form over the next seven days.

One of the areas we were monitoring, AL94, has been a bit buzzing over the past few days.

These are the current forecasts:

  • East of the Leeward Islands (AL94 – Orange): Recent surface wind satellite data showed the circulation associated with a disturbance over the tropical Atlantic Ocean has become less defined since Tuesday, the National Hurricane Center said. As we move west-northwestward, this low pressure area will remain disorganized with a low to moderate chance of development (30-40%) over the next 2-7 days. A tropical
A depression could form as the system approaches the Leeward and Virgin Islands late this week.

  • Western Caribbean Sea (yellow): Another area of low pressure and associated showers and thunderstorms is in the southwestern Caribbean Sea. This disturbance could develop if it remains above water as it slowly moves northwest toward Central America. There is a 20% chance of formation in the next 2-7 days.
