Kamala Harris campaign spokesperson says her Fox News appearance is crucial ‘piece of the puzzle’

Come on Kamala Harris‘s first-ever sit-down interview on Fox News, campaign spokesman Ian Sams told Vanity fair that her appearance on the network is an “important piece of the puzzle” in the broader strategy of the final part of the campaign.

Sams joined the host Brian Stelter on Vanity fair‘S Inside the Bijenkorf podcast for an extended conversation in which Sams said the interview was on Fox News with anchor Bret Baier “serves two purposes” for the Harris-Walz campaign. First, there’s the exposure the network can provide, given its consistently high ratings. Second, he argued, “there are a lot of undecided voters watching the network,” including some Democrats and independent voters.

The Fox News audience “frankly gets fed a lot of nonsense a lot of the time,” Sams continued, adding that viewers get to hear directly from her “through the sit-down.”

Sams told Stelter, who is also CNN’s chief media analyst, that the Harris campaign has no illusions about Fox’s political leanings; there is, he said, “a whole alternate reality being created every day by Fox News” and other conservative media. Yet the campaign still believes that getting Harris’ message to the public can have an impact three weeks after Election Day. To that end, vice presidential candidate Tim Walz has appeared Fox News Sunday two weeks in a row.

Wednesday’s sit-down “says something about the two candidates,” Sams said. “It says that, you know, she’s tough, she’s strong, she can take on opponents. Donald Trump“He is weak and withdrawn and withdraws into his comfort zone.”

In recent weeks, the campaign has made a concerted effort to draw comparisons between Harris and Trump’s media appearances. Earlier this week, in a slew of social media posts, Sams highlighted the former president’s reluctance to participate in a mainstream media interview so close to the election, noting Trump’s recent decision to withdraw from a already scheduled CBS News interview. 60 minutes interview.

“And so, you know, in that respect it’s important to be at Fox,” Sams said.
