The coolest air since last spring will arrive Wednesday night

A cold front will move through the area and temperatures will continue to drop through Wednesday night.

What you need to know

  • The low will be in the 50s for most Thursday morning
  • Some in Citrus County could top 40
  • The peak will be in the 1970s

Tonight and into Thursday morning, temperatures around Tampa Bay will drop into the mid to upper 50s, with a few degrees into the upper 50s possible in the north.

Our typical first low below 60 occurs on October 23 in Tampa, so this is a little ahead of schedule. We will also drop at least a few degrees below 60.

If we manage to get down to 56 degrees in Tampa, it will be the coolest temperature since March 21 and the earliest 56 degrees since 2009.

Temperatures could dip into the low 40s early Thursday morning in some areas in far northern Florida.

Expect plenty of sunshine and low humidity Thursday with afternoon temperatures in the mid to upper 70s.

Humidity will remain low and mornings and evenings will remain on the cooler side throughout the weekend.

A strong breeze will continue to blow from the northeast until early next week.
