What the Agatha All Along finale says about the future of the MCU

Major spoilers ahead for the final episodes of Agatha all the time.

Marvel provided a finale. Well, showrunner Jac Schaffer and company did. Certainly, Agatha all the time indulged in a little witch-on-witch fight in “Follow Me, My Friend, To Glory at the End,” but even Agatha (Kathryn Hahn) gave in, even with the help of Billy (Joe Locke) in full Wiccan regalia, that you cannot fight Death (Aubrey Plaza). The two-part finale eschewed blindingly obvious and unnecessary Marvel Cinematic Universe tie-ins and instead offered emotionally charged answers to the questions that plagued the nine-episode season, such as Billy/Teen’s identity, Rio’s source and Agatha’s claim , the truth. behind the Witches’ Road and the heartbreaking fate of Nicky Scratch, Agatha’s son.

But even if Agatha Packed with many answered questions, it left the specter of a few more, as a ghostly Agatha and Billy set out to find Tommy, Billy’s brother. So let’s try to answer them ourselves.

So Agatha is a ghost now?
Yeah, leave it to Agatha to find a way to still be involved in people’s affairs. In the comics, it is common for Agatha to take a non-corporeal form. She was killed early on by Wanda, but later returned to her side to continue guiding her. Witches, what can you say? It’s very similar Agatha all the timewhere Hahn’s Agatha is now inclined to mentor Billy. Like mother, like son!

And there really is no Witches’ Way?
There is currently no Witches’ Road in the MCU. The origin and the ballad that would go into it was apparently a con concocted by Agatha and her son Nicky to continue draining the magic from other witches. But it’s safe to assume that the MCU wouldn’t just abandon such a juicy location from the comics, which reminds me…

So no Wanda this time, huh?
No. There were a lot of great mentions of our Scarlet Witch throughout the season, but we couldn’t even get confirmation that she was dead or alive after the events of Doctor Strange in the Multiverse of Madness. Death was there – it would have been an easy question! The simplest out-of-universe explanation is that the MCU probably had some trouble getting Elizabeth Olsen to sign a contract to return and thought it best to leave her character’s fate ambiguous. She seemed content to leave the MCU bubble after…Doctor Strangebut some recent interviews indicate she could be ready to come back with the right story. Jac Schaeffer, sharpen your pencils! Charge your laptop! Buy some new BIC pens!

Meanwhile, perhaps the simplest in-universe answer is that the Witch’s Way is real, and Wanda, similar to the Scarlet Witch: Witches’ Way comic from 2016, there is: an alternate dimension that exists outside of time and space and where it would be incredibly difficult to reach her or know if she was alive or not, so to speak. If anyone could find the real Witch’s Way, it would be the mythical Scarlet Witch.

Will Jennifer Kale and Rio/Death return?
Jennifer Kale (Sasheer Zamata) cutting herself loose was one of the most emotional beats in these episodes chock full of them. Ultimately, Kale was able to get her (pretty pink) magic back and fight her way out of Billy’s imaginary Witches’ Road – although we don’t see where she flies to.

If we follow comic history, we could see Kale again in a for now only theoretical Midnight Sons project. The Midnight Sons are a group of mystical heroes brought together to fend off demons, and the lineup includes Kale and other current MCU heroes like Doctor Strange, Wong, Elsa Bloodstone, and Jack Russel from Werewolf at nightMoon Knight, Blade (if that ever gets off the ground), and Ghost Rider, a character not currently in the MCU, but rumors are swirling.

As for Rio/Death, Aubrey told Plaza Time that she is “hesitant to be part of that machine,” meaning the MCU, but she has joined Agatha all the time exclusively for Kathryn Hahn. It looks like Hahn is sticking around, so I imagine Plaza will be brought over for at least one more Marvel project. Maybe a Scarlet Witch movie? Imagine the power of Hahn, Plaza and Olsen together.

When will we see Agatha and Billy next?
The Witches’ Way may not have literally led Billy to Tommy, but Agatha was able to help Billy realize what happened to his brother’s soul after the events of WandaVision. And the end of Agatha all the time ghost Agatha is ready to help Billy find Tommy, but will that result in a second season of the series? There’s no confirmation, but Schaffer seems resolute in the story she told here, while also seeming interested in playing with the characters of Agatha all the time again. There is Vision questa series around Paul Bettany’s White Vision, led by Terry Matalas that will probably be released sometime in 2026. If Agatha were to have Billy, it would be interesting for Vision to have Tommy, which would at least allow for an Agatha and Billy cameo, but perhaps there would be too many cooks in the kitchen. I just want the Maximoffs to reunite before I get old.

Where exactly is Tommy?
We have a few details about Tommy, who was reincarnated into the body of a teenager who was drowned by some bullies in a backyard pool. Even more depressing, it seems that Tommy’s new parents, unlike Billy’s Kaplan parents, are not as loving or close: “The people, the family, there’s no one to love him,” Billy exclaims to Agatha. Drawing from comic book history, Tommy is reborn into the Shepherd family in Springfield, New Jersey (same state as Westview!), but his super-speed skills (similar to those of his Uncle Pietro) cause incredible problems, causing him to… from juvenile detention. Prison break-in Vision quest?

Will Billy be part of the Young Avengers or not?
Billy is an integral part of the Young Avengers in the comics. One of the first, The Children’s Crusade by Allan Heinberg and Jim Cheung, is all about Billy/Wiccan, Tommy/Speed and the rest of the team finding the Scarlet Witch, so it seems incredibly likely that this will be a blueprint for the MCU going forward. In the MCU, Kamala Khan (aka Ms. Marvel) is currently busy collecting heroes for the young super team. Her very first recruit is Kate Bishop (Hailee Steinfeld). The miracles post-credits scene, so obvious it’s just getting started. Billy has a lot on his plate at the moment, but rest assured he will be part of Young Avengers (including Tommy) in due time.

Do the residents of Westview have to move already?
You know Agatha’s neighbors were exhausted when they saw more and more witch fights happening in Westview. Even though it seems like all the threats of witchcraft happening in their backyard are over for now, this is the MCU, so there’s no guarantee that a witch won’t return! They should follow Ralph Bohner’s example and leave. Maybe then they could watch his one-man show in Paramus.
