Live Wire: Texans at Jets on ‘Thursday Night Football’

The NFL decided to skip the treats and pull a trick on NFL fans this Halloween as they have rescheduled the New York Jets in a Primetime viewing window. They welcome the Houston Texans to New Jersey in Week 9 for a special spooky edition of “Thursday Night Football.” These two teams have only faced each other ten times in their history, with the Jets holding a 7-3 lead including winning the previous two games.

The Texans (6-2) sit atop the AFC South after beating the Colts last week, giving them a two-and-a-half game lead in the division. The unfortunate fallout from that game is that the Texans lost star receiver Stefon Diggs for the season after a non-contact knee injury. With Nico Collins on injured reserve for at least another week, the Texans will turn to WR Tank Dell, RB Joe Mixon and TE Dalton Schultz, while also hoping for contributions from WRs Xavier Hutchinson, John Metchie III and Robert Woods.

The Jets (2-6) will rely on their stout secondary to have a talent advantage, while also asking their defensive line to take control of Houston’s suspect offensive line. On offense, Aaron Rodgers finally didn’t throw an interception last week, but he’s still working on finding his chemistry with Davante Adams. The Texans’ secondary plays well against both wide receivers and tight ends, but it’s their defensive line that Jets fans should be concerned about, as they are No. 1 in the NFL in pressure rate (43.8%) and third regarding pockets (27). .

Betting line and choice for the game

The folks at FanDuel Sportsbook favor New York in this game, with the betting line set Jets -1.5 points.

This season we’ve seen the Jets find ways to lose in Primetime time and time again and I don’t see things changing this week despite the Texans losing Diggs. I’m taking Houston on the points and on the moneyline.

Prediction: Houston 24-17
