A ‘Jane the Virgin’ favorite appeared on ‘Matlock’ – and she’s coming back

Fans of “Jane the Virgin” were probably waiting for one of the cast members of the beloved drama series to show up on “Jane” creator Jennie Snyder Urman’s new show, CBS’s “Matlock.” In episode 3 they got their (our) wish.

Yael Grobglas, who played the sharp Petra in “Jane,” came to the offices of Jacobson & Moore as a special jury consultant with an amazing gift: she can tell when someone is lying. “The Meerkat” aka Shae is great at spotting less than ideal jurors, but a big problem for Madeline Matlock (Kathy Bates) who, in case you haven’t heard, is secretly undercover at the law firm, in the hope of finding out Which of the three fancy lawyers hid documents ten years ago that could have ended the opioid crisis sooner? That’s a season runner on top of the mystery of the case of the week.

“(Yael) comes back multiple times (during the season),” Urman told IndieWire. “I think her next episode is 7.”

Grobglas is a particularly fun addition to a show already earning rave reviews for its clever conceit. It’s no wonder that CBS recently renewed the show for a second season after only airing two episodes. But while fans are just getting to know the entire crew, Urman promises that the intriguing twist about who at the law firm is responsible for hiding documents will be resolved by the end of the season; they’re not going to delay that part any longer.

“At the end of the episode (in this season’s finale), you will definitively know who did what, when and how,” Urman promised. “So we’ll sort that out, and then it’ll kind of open up storylines.”

Another big seasonal question is the tension between the delightful Olympia (Skye P. Marshall) and Julian (Jason Ritter). The two lawyers are in the middle of a divorce, but many fans are already hoping that they will find a way to work it out.

“It’s complicated,” Urman said, laughing. ‘You know it’s complicated. There’s been back and forth and it’s been a long marriage, and I support them, but I also know what comes between them. So there are ups and downs.”

“Matlock” airs new episodes on CBS Thursdays.
