Actor David Arquette talks about the Scream franchise and his future in it

LOUISVILLE, Ky. (WAVE) – Are you watching a scary movie tonight on Halloween? One of the best scary movie franchises is Scream. During a stop on WAVE Country, actor David Arquette spoke about Scream with fans and spoke with me for an exclusive interview.

“Ghostface is a timeless character,” Arquette said. It was 1996 when David Arquette was cast in the first film Scream. “We had no idea it would be such a huge phenomenon. We didn’t really know what it was going to be,” Arquette recalls. “It changed the course of my life. I was supposed to die in the first movie. But Deputy Dewey Riley didn’t die. He was inside too Scream 2, 3, 4 and 5. Arquette said the character was originally written as a jock. But Arquette told director Wes Craven that he thought he could play that character well.

“It’s the most impactful film I’ve been a part of,” Arquette said. “If you can play a character over a period of 25 years or something, you don’t get that opportunity very often.”

Arquette thinks the franchise is so successful because the films took into account fans’ love for horror films. He also said that the fight scenes with Ghostface involved a lot of stunts.

“It’s great to make these movies,” Arquette said. “And when you see the real Ghostface, even though I made all the movies, I’m like, ooh, there’s Ghostface. There he is.’” Arquette said he enjoys meeting fans, just as he did this evening at the Kentucky Center for the Performing Arts. “Of Scream 5 and relaunching it with this whole, kind of young generation, I don’t know, just having new legs and people discovering the old ones, and we now have all these fans of different ages, it’s pretty amazing,”

Arquette said. It was a display of Scream 5 that his 20-year-old daughter with Courtney Cox, Coco, realized how big Scream is.

‘It’s usually a bit embarrassing for your kids. But for her to say, ‘oh wow’, that was a very proud moment.” His two young boys haven’t seen the movie yet. But last Halloween, 10-year-old Charlie and 7-year-old Gus dressed up as Ghostface and Dewey.

“He looks just like me,” Arquette said. “We’ve grown a little moustache. It was hilarious.”

Arquette and his wife Christina now live off Interstate 65 in Nashville.

“We have mini horses, mini pigs, minks, two little ducks, mini ducks, mini donkeys,” Arquette said.

Arquette is still acting. He will be inside The Holy Trinity And Mafia agents. And he is also a painter.

“I am a certified Bob Ross instructor,” Arquette said. “I know it’s random.”

Arquette has Dewey to thank for a life full of action. When asked about a return in Scream 7said Arquette, “It’s a horror movie, so anything is possible.”

You’ll have to wait a while for it Scream 7. The release is expected to take place in February 2026.
