Allen Lazard’s injury could force New York Jets to trade struggling WR

The New York Jets suffered another unfortunate injury on Thursday when the team announced that Allen Lazard had been placed on IR. Lazard will now miss the next four games.

With the Jets looking to move a number of players in the coming week before the November 5 trade deadline, there is a chance this could impact that.

It is believed that how they play in Week 9 will determine what they do at the deadline. If they win, New York might think they have a shot at making the playoffs.

It would be an interesting thought because even if they win, it’s hard to imagine a scenario where the front office would have to trust this team. They won Thursday night and could easily lose the next five games.

Without Lazard, that doesn’t get much easier, and it could confuse Mike Williams’ situation. Williams is considered one of the top trading targets in the market.

Due to his struggles during his short stint with the team, the Jets are expected to move on from him for draft compensation, which will benefit their future.

However, Forbes’ Jesse Reed believes Lazard’s injury could make New York hesitant to trade Williams.

Before he messed up and was subsequently heavily criticized by Aaron Rodgers for his route error in their Week 6 loss to the Buffalo Bills, Williams was actually still part of the Jets offense. He wasn’t a huge part of it, but he still had a role… Even with Davante Adams in the starting lineup with rising star Garrett Wilson, the Jets need a solid third receiving option. Williams may be, at least in the short term as the franchise must determine if he is more valuable on the field, or if the draft compensation they can receive for him in a trade will serve them better in the future.”

While his reasoning is fair, it wouldn’t make much sense to keep Williams since he has a one-year contract. Plus, others in the building could do what he did even if they aren’t considered the same type of player as him.

The Jet’s focus this coming week should be to get as much value as possible. If that means the team will struggle from here on out, that shouldn’t be a problem.

Even with the win on Thursday night, New York isn’t playing good football right now, so why not take advantage while we still can?
