Here’s part of a look at how the Cavs spoiled LeBron and Bronny James’ homecoming with an emphatic win from cleveland.com Cavs beat writer Chris Fedor:

CLEVELAND, Ohio — The Cavs didn’t care that it was homecoming night.

Fueled by a brutal first quarter, Cleveland overwhelmed the Los Angeles Lakers 134-110 on Wednesday, spoiling LeBron James’ only regular-season return.

It’s the Cavs’ fifth straight win to open the season, marking the franchise’s best start since 2016-17. They are the only undefeated team left in the NBA’s Eastern Conference.

“We still have a ways to go,” Cavs coach Kenny Atkinson said. “We are developing, we are still learning each other. Still a work in progress. But it feels like we are going in the right direction.”

Ahead of the game, James, who has been on the job for about a week, spoke about how special Wednesday night would be. It wasn’t just his return to the building he called home for 11 scintillating seasons, always one of the most anticipated games on the schedule. But this time, his eldest son – and Lakers teammate – Bronny would be with him.

Not even as a spectator.

To commemorate this unique moment, the Cavs welcomed both players back during the first stoppage of Wednesday’s matchup – a one-minute tribute that included a tribute video featuring several clips from LeBron’s time in Cleveland, including some moments spent with a younger Bronny during the Cavs 2016 Championship Celebration.

“I didn’t really get a chance to seize the moment because we got knocked off,” LeBron said after the game. “I was a little angry. I was a little angry at the time during that time out, so I didn’t get a chance to really like and appreciate it. But I heard it. It was a really cool moment.”

For much of the night, the James-related hoopla took a backseat to Cleveland’s near-wire-to-wire dominance.

With an aggressive Donovan Mitchell spearheading the offensive attack, Cleveland made 10 of its first 12 shots, quickly moving ahead by double digits.

By the end of the first quarter, the Cavs had erupted for 42 points, shooting 17 of 22 from the field and 8 of 13 from three-point range. They led by 19 after the first 12 minutes – and never relented, pushing the lead to a game-high 28 at one point.

The only question that remains: Would Bronny get the chance to play on the field he frequented as a child?

After all, he had only logged three minutes to that point — all during the team’s season opener on Oct. 22, more of a ceremonial performance so Bronny and Dad could become the first father-son duo ever to play together in the NBA.

Around 8:30 in the fourth quarter on Wednesday evening, Rocket Mortgage FieldHouse reverberated with “We want Bronny” chants.

A few minutes later, the 20-year-old, born at Cuyahoga Falls General Hospital about 40 minutes away, jumped off the Lakers bench and walked calmly to the scorer’s table. He received a hero’s welcome when he came on for the first time, and another huge ovation followed at 2:03 when Bronny buried a mid-range jumper for his first NBA basket.

It was one of the few Lakers highlights.

“It was just a dream come true for me,” Bronny said. “I felt really good. I was still in game mode when I shot, so I didn’t really notice it while I was playing. But yeah, it felt good afterwards.”
