Nuggets vs. Timberwolves NBA Predictions and Picks (11/1)

After an 0-2 start to the season, the Nuggets are back on track after back-to-back wins. Nikola Jokic & Co. last scored a 144-139 win over the Brooklyn Nets on Tuesday. Jokic led the way with another triple-double (29 points, 18 rebounds, 16 assists), while Aaron Gordon and Jamal Murray each scored 24 points.

As for the Timberwolves, they’ll be hoping to get back into a win column after falling 120-114 to the Dallas Mavericks two nights ago. Although Anthony Edwards scored a game-high 37 points, it wasn’t enough to stop the Mavs as Luka Doncic and Kyrie Irving combined for 59 points.

Nevertheless, tonight marks the first meeting between the Nuggets and Timberwolves since the second round of the 2024 NBA postseason. The Northwest Division rivals need seven full games to decide the series, with Minnesota ultimately finishing with a 98- 90 on Denver in Game 7 to advance to the Western Conference Finals.

Things have been pretty even between these rivals for a while now. Including that playoff series, the Timberwolves and Nuggets have each won seven of their last 14 meetings.

The Timberwolves eliminated the Nuggets in seven games in Round 2 of the 2023-2024 playoffs.

If the Nuggets want to win tonight, they’ll need a stronger effort. Their only two wins this season came in overtime against the Nets and Toronto Raptors – two teams expected to be among the worst in the NBA this year. In the meantime. they crumbled when they faced legitimate teams in the LA Clippers and Oklahoma City Thunder.

While the Timberwolves haven’t been perfect, they at least beat the Raptors by 11 points in regulation and also picked up a win against a solid Sacramento Kings squad. Even though things didn’t go as planned against the Mavericks, the T-wolves only lost that outing by two possessions.

Ultimately, I think defense can make the difference here. The Nuggets have struggled to defend the ball, allowing the seventh-most points per game on the 11th-highest field goal percentage with the 10th-worst defensive efficiency.

On the other hand, the Timberwolves rank 12th, 18th and 15th in that regard. Not perfect either, but not nearly as bad as the opposition.

The Timberwolves’ defense was better than the Nuggets’ at the start of the 2024-25 season.

While this could be a close game, I’ll take the Timberwolves are strong at home. Both teams have left a lot to be desired this season, but the Timberwolves are closer to a complete team. The Nuggets have struggled to beat cellar dwellers and their lackluster defensive play makes them difficult to trust against the likes of Edwards, Julius Randle and Rudy Gobert.

With that in mind, no matter who wins, taking the More than the total of 218 points is a no brainer. After all, the Nuggets’ last two games have averaged 267.5 total points, while two of the Timberwolves’ last three games exceeded tonight’s expected score.

Considering the Over is 7-3 in the last ten games between Denver and Minnesota at Target Center, I think there’s a decent chance of scoring quite a few points tonight.

Best Nuggets vs. Timberwolves NBA Player Prop (11/1)

Even though Rudy Gobert is one of the best defensive centers in the NBA, he can’t hold back Nikola Jokic. That’s why I’m taking the Serbian superstar with me to score <27.5 points (-104) for the best bet on Nuggets vs. Timberwolves players.

Jokic has had a great start to the 2024-2025 season. The three-time NBA MVP is averaging 31.5 points on a .573/.550/.778 split through four games and has finished with Over on this prop in each of his last three outings – including a pair of 40-point attempts. He now has to deal with the Timberwolves, who he has been pretty good with in recent years.

In his last 13 meetings with Minnesota, Jokic is averaging 31.3 points while shooting 51.9% from the floor and 33.3% from deep. He scored more than 28 points nine times during that stretch, including hitting the Over four times during the second-round playoff series.

In other words, you should feel pretty confident about this Jokic prop.
